Outreach Ministries 

Non-perishable foods are collected by parishioners on the first Sunday of each month for delivery to the Food Bank. Then, we assist each Friday in food distribution at Christ Episcopal Church in Coconut Grove. We also provide financial support for special projects.

This family-friendly ministry includes an annual Mission trip to the Honduras group home for abused, neglected and exploited young girls. Here they live in a safe and loving environment where they can grow into successful women with spiritual values based on the teachings of Jesus. We provide an annual grant that supports two girls. Some parishioners also sponsor girls. We also fund projects to improve their school environment.

We provide financial and “hands-on” support for Casa Valentina and Emmaus Place, an affordable housing and LIFE skills program for young women and young men aging out of foster care at age eighteen. We host parties to celebrate Christmas, graduations, birthdays, etc., and do occasional apartment refurbishing and landscaping projects.

St. Alban’s has two pre-K schools serving 180 children in some of the poorest neighborhoods of Coconut Grove and South Miami.  We have been involved in various programs for over 10 years.  Currently, we have parish-wide involvement through our Christmas Angel Tree gifts and Santa Party as well as through an annual drive by our school parents to provide books for the school and children homes.

We are actively involved in serving holiday dinners at the Coconut Grove Food Bank, the Chapman Assistance Center and Holy Comforter Church at Thanksgiving and Christmas time. In addition, Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner Bags are assembled and delivered to the senior housing community of Holy Comforter and the poor served by the Crisis Food Bank.

New Life provides transitional housing and supervised support to return to self-sufficiency for up to 15 homeless families.  In this family-friendly ministry, we provide monthly birthday parties for New Life children with food, gifts, and games. Parties near Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving are celebrated in special ways.

This ministry has focused on projects that involve our children and their families in service to others. Birthday parties each month for the children of New Life Family Shelter. The collection of hard-boiled eggs for Feed My Sheep’s bagged breakfasts for the homeless. Our children also prepare sandwiches twice a month, as well as burritos, for Feed My Sheep. In addition to Christmas gift for the children of Le Jardin Pre-K school in Homestead, they also buy gifts and participate in the annual Angel Tree Christmas party for the children of St. Albans. And they have on two occasions joined with other Episcopal parishes to pack 50,000 meals for the needy in Haiti.  And still others participate in our annual mission to Little Roses. Our children are truly learning and involved in service to others.

We provide a bagged breakfast and hot coffee to 150 to 200 homeless men and women every Wednesday and Friday morning in downtown Miami. Bagged meals are packed on Tuesdays and Thursdays afternoons.  Key parts of each meal are canned Vienna sausages/hot dogs, which we purchase wholesale and hard-boiled eggs which we collect from St. Philip’s church and school families, as well as several other area churches. We collect leftover bread and pastries from local supermarkets and bakeries.

A small downtown church serving a Spanish and English congregation, our support includes Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for its senior housing residents.  We also provide occasional support to its children’s day care facility.
